Carjackers shoot at woman during afternoon hijacking in West Town, cops say

Carjackers fired shots at a woman as they hijacked her SUV in West Town on Monday afternoon. And, police say, another woman was carjacked in Wicker Park on Sunday night. Here are the details:

Around 3:35 p.m. Monday, a woman was walking away from her Kia Sportage when five hijackers approached her, displayed a handgun, and demanded her keys in the 1400 block of West Augusta, police said.

According to a police spokesperson, the woman tossed her keys to the men, and one of them fired shots at her, but she was not injured. The stolen gray SUV was last seen northbound on Ashland Avenue.

Witnesses said the suspects are Black males in their teens. One reportedly wore a red sweatshirt, another wore a camouflage bandana, and a third wore new tennis shoes with a unique design.

On Sunday night, a 31-year-old woman was carjacked on the 1400 block of North Milwaukee, according to CPD.

The victim was standing next to her black 2018 Dodge Journey when a maroon SUV pulled up, and a man stepped out. She said the man threatened her and demanded control of her car, which she surrendered, police said.

He was last seen heading northbound on Milwaukee and then westbound on North Avenue with the woman’s SUV.

Area Three detectives are investigating the hijackings.
