Police: Man shot in Rogers Park on Monday morning

An 18-year-old man was shot in the foot on a Rogers Park sidewalk Monday morning, police said. The shooting came just minutes after police left the scene of a violent domestic incident in the area.

The man told police he was in the 1900 block of West Fargo when he heard gunfire and felt pain in his foot around 10 a.m., according to a CPD statement. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition.

Another bullet flew through the window of a home on the 1900 block of West Birchwood, but no one was injured there, a CPD report says. Shell casings were found in a nearby alley.

Approximate location of the shooting.

Around the time of the shooting, police had just finished handling a violent domestic incident on the same block that apparently did not involve the 18-year-old.

Investigators were working to determine if someone connected to the earlier incident unintentionally shot the man after police left the scene, according to a CPD source.

According to Illinois Department of Corrections records, a man allegedly involved in the domestic is on parole for being a felon in possession of a firearm and has previous convictions for attempted murder and another gun charge.

Area Three detectives are investigating the shooting.
