An off-duty Chicago police officers shot a man who broke into his Albany Park home early Wednesday, according to a brief statement issued by CPD.
The officer’s wife called 911 around 12:53 a.m. and said her husband shot someone who was breaking into their home in the 3100 block of West Belle Plaine.
On-duty police found a 28-year-old man outside the home’s front door with a gunshot wound to his face. The CPD statement said he was shot while inside the residence during a home invasion.
He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators found one shell casing at the scene.
Chicago police and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability are conducting separate investigations.
