Robbery inside West Loop fitness center is part of crime pattern, cops say

Chicago police issued a community alert for the West Loop on Monday night after detectives linked two recent robberies, including one that took place inside a fitness center, to the same offenders.

According to the bulletin, both hold-ups were reported within about 10 minutes on the evening of February 24.

Around 6:40 p.m., a man entered a fitness facility on the 1100 block of West Madison and implied he had a gun as he robbed two people of their phones, a CPD report said.

Another armed robbery was reported on the 1200 block of West Madison about ten minutes earlier, but no further details were immediately available about that case. Police records indicate the hold-up took place on the sidewalk.

The fitness center victims said the robber is a Black man in his late teens to early 20’s who stands 5’5” to 5’10” tall. They said he wore a blue puffy coat, jeans, and had reddish hair styled in cornrows.

Detectives typically issue community alerts when they believe a person or group is responsible for a series of crimes.
