Women targeted in West Loop, West Town robberies

Police are investigating another robbery reported in the West Loop on Saturday morning and one reported minutes earlier in West Town. The muggings follow two street robberies in the area on Friday night.

Around 6:50 a.m., a man got out of a silver-colored vehicle and attacked a woman as she walked on the 100 block of North Desplaines, according to one CPD report. The man battered the woman, took her valuables, and then fled in the car, which was occupied by an accomplice.

Minutes earlier, two men got out of a silver vehicle, knocked a woman to the ground, and tried to rob her as she waited for a bus at Chicago and Milwaukee. A bystander intervened in the attack, and the men fled in their car. A nearby CPD surveillance camera recorded the incident.

According to witnesses, one of the robbers is a Black male in his early- to mid-20’s who stands about 5’8” tall. Their car reportedly appears to be a silver Infiniti or Kia SUV.

On Friday evening, four men tried to block a man in with a Toyota Prius and a dark-colored SUV after he emerged from a Chase ATM vestibule at 330 North Desplaines. One of the men pulled out a gun, but the victim managed to get away, according to a CPD report.

Then, around 9:50 p.m., four men riding in a Toyota Prius and a dark-colored SUV robbed a man near the corner of Jefferson and Madison. The offenders reportedly got out of the cars, displayed a gun, and took the victim’s wallet and phone.

The same crew is suspected of battering and robbing a man in Avondale earlier Friday evening.
