Auto burglar is actively welcoming restaurant diners back to Fulton Market

People are finally starting to head back out to enjoy dinner at Chicago’s hard-hit restaurants. And the city’s criminals will be there to welcome them when they arrive. In fact, police say an auto burglar is already working hard on the Near West Side, where many favorite restaurants are located.

Auto break-ins have been reported to police on at least six evenings since March 10 around the West Fulton Market restaurant strip, according to a community alert from CPD. Nearly all of the break-ins were reported between 6:45 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Police said a series of auto break-ins has been reported on blocks shaded red.

Police recorded burglaries in the 900 block of West Fulton market on March 10, March 11, and March 18.

Break-ins were reported in the 800 block of West Wayman on March 12, March 15, and March 29. Police logged another case in the 900 block of West Wayman on March 23.

One break-in was reported in the 300 block of North Peoria on March 10.

Police did not release a description of the suspect. They did, however, encourage people to remove all items from their parked vehicles.

Anyone with information about the crimes can contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8263 about case P21-3-045.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
