A suspect is in custody after he opened fire on a group of people outside a West Loop hotel overnight, according to a CPD report. Charges are pending.
Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 100 block of North Jefferson around 2:27 a.m. and spoke with witnesses who described the gunman, CPD spokesperson Sally Bown said.
Cops also reviewed surveillance video that shows the man walking out of an unnamed business and passing through a group of people, Bown said. He then pulled out a handgun and began shooting at the group. No one was injured, but bullets struck several nearby vehicles.
Video shows the man getting into a vehicle and fleeing north on Jefferson Street, Bown said.
Cops searched the area and found the gunman walking in the area. Bown said he tried to ignore and evade officers, but police detained him and found a handgun along the path he walked.
Detectives continue to investigate the shooting. According to police records, the suspect is 29 and has a history of contact with CPD.
CWBChicago will post an update after charges are approved.
