Burglar is targeting ground-floor apartments on North Side, cops say

Police are warning about a burglar who is crawling through ground-floor apartment windows during overnight hours in Lincoln Park and Lakeview.

The prowler has struck twice this month, police said in a community alert Thursday evening: in the 2600 block of North Sheffield on the night of June 8-9 and in the 1600 block of West Roscoe on the night of June 11-12.

Police said the offender used force to gain access in one case. He takes valuables from inside the home and then flees, the alert said.

Detectives are urging residents to make sure security and video systems are working properly and to pay special attention to suspicious people around the area.

Anyone with information about break-ins can contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8263 about cases JE-259217 and JE-263164.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
