Police: Armed robber targeting stores on Far North Side; 4 cases this month

An armed robber has held up four stores in Rogers Park and West Ridge since June 3, according to a community alert from Area Three detectives. Police reports indicate he is targeting liquor and convenience stores.

The man typically displays a firearm and demands cash from an employee, police said. It’s not clear if he uses a vehicle to escape. According to the community alert and police reports, the man robbed:

  • Basil Food & Liquor, 7446 North Western, at 10:51 p.m. on June 3. The community alert erroneously said this robbery happened at 11:51 p.m.
  • An unknown business on the 1300 block of West Touhy at 10:28 p.m. on June 14
  • 7-Eleven, 6801 North Sheridan, at 5:27 a.m. on June 17
  • Soo Liquors, 1428 West Morse, at 2:22 p.m on June 17

Police said the robber is a Black male between 18- and 27-years-old who stands 5’7″ to 6-feet tall and weighs 150 to 175 pounds. He has worn a black zip-up North Face jacket, black sweatpants, white gym shoes, and mechanic gloves, according to the alert.
