A 24-year-old woman was shot while riding in a car near Addison and California in the Avondale neighborhood early Saturday, police said. No arrests have been made.
The woman was southbound on California when someone fired shots at her car from another vehicle around 4:15 a.m., according to a CPD report. At least one round struck the woman in her back.
The driver of her vehicle took her to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, where she was initially listed in fair condition. Several bullet holes were visible in the car she was riding in, and its back window had been shot out.
Police found shell casings on the 3600 block of North California.
Avondale recorded seven shootings through the first half of this year. That’s down from eight during the same period 2020 and 2019.
Area Five detectives are investigating the shooting.
