A 26-year-old woman is in good condition after being shot inside a car in Rogers Park on Sunday evening, police said. The victim reportedly knows the offender.
Police said the woman was inside her parked car on the 7700 block of North Marshfield when a female acquaintance walked up and began shooting at her around 8:55 p.m. The shooter then ran to a white Jeep and sped from the scene, according to police.
One round struck the victim in her left hand. She drove herself to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for treatment. Police found eleven bullet holes in her car at the hospital.
Shortly before the shooting, police heard gunfire in the area and chased after a man who dropped a handgun during the pursuit, according to a separate CPD report. Officers caught him and recovered the handgun, the report said. Charges were pending in the incident, which initially appeared to be separate from the shooting that injured the woman.
Area Three detectives are investigating.
Sunday’s victim is the 16th person reported shot in Rogers Park this year. All of the victims have survived.
