Update September 8 — A 15-year-old boy is charged with armed robbery in connection with the Lake Street attack, according to a CPD spokesperson.
Three suspects are in custody after a man was beaten and robbed in the Loop early Tuesday, police said.
A 54-year-old man was walking on the 100 block of East Lake when someone punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground around 12:30 a.m., according to police. Another attacker struck the victim in the back of his head with some type of object while he was on the ground and the offenders took the man’s book bag and phone, according to police.
Officers who were responding to an unrelated incident saw the robbery in progress and chased several suspects in the area of State and Randolph. Three suspects were arrested after they were identified as being part of the group that attacked the man, according to a CPD spokesperson. Charges are pending.
In a separate incident, a tourist was robbed of his Divvy bike while riding in the South Loop on Monday evening. The victim was riding his bike on Roosevelt near Canal when a group of six teenagers forced him from his Divvy and stole it around 7 p.m., according to a CPD report.
Police warned Divvy riders in late August about groups of teenagers who are robbing people of their shared bikes in the downtown area.
