Two women were robbed at gunpoint by men who climbed into their car on a North Center side street Friday night, Chicago police said. No arrests have been made, but the incident is similar to a robbery spree that hit Wicker Park and the Near West Side early Friday.
Officer Alex Aguas said the women, ages 24 and 28, were sitting in a parked car on the 4100 block of North Wolcott when three men got inside and each displayed a handgun around 11:50 p.m. The men took the women’s purses and phones, then fled in a silver Honda Accord. Aguas said the women were not injured.
Police found some of the victims’ property abandoned on the 3200 block of North Broadway in Boystown a short time later. Cops also saw the getaway car traveling along the Halsted Street bar strip on Boystown, but officers said the vehicle sped away after the occupants saw police behind them.
Four men were in the car, including one who wore a red hoodie and another who wore a red shirt. Aguas said no other descriptive details were available.
On Friday, police responded to at least four robberies that were committed by armed men who emerged from a silver sedan in Wicker Park, Little Italy, and Pilsen:
- Around 2 a.m., two men, ages 25 and 26, were sitting in a parked car on the 1200 block of North Hermitage when a silver car pulled up next to them and three men emerged with handguns, said Officer Ronald Westbrooks. The offenders took the victims’ phones and wallets, then fled in the car they arrived in.
- At approximately 2:10 a.m., two men stepped out of a silver car on the 1900 block of West Division and robbed a 30-year-old man who was walking, Westbrooks said. They took two bags from the man and drove away. Paramedics transported the victim to St. Mary’s Hospital for an arm injury, according to Westbrooks.
- A 50-year-old man was sitting in his parked car on the 1300 block of South Blue Island when two men pulled up behind him in a gray sedan around 1:45 a.m. They got into his car, pulled out handguns, and took his cash.
- Around the same time, a 25-year-old man was robbed as he walked on the 1700 block of West 18th Street in Pilsen. Westbrooks said a robber stepped out of a gray car and took the victim’s money at gunpoint. At least two other men were inside the car.
Westbrooks said the suspects in Friday’s hold-ups are Black males who wore masks. One victim said they are in their early 20’s with one being about 5’10” tall and 230 pounds while another is about 5’7″ tall and 150 pounds.
