Police investigate 2 shootings in West Loop

Police are investigating two separate shooting incidents reported in the West Loop late Monday and early Tuesday. No arrests have been made in either case.

Most recently, a 27-year-old woman was shot while she sat in a parked car outside the Blommer Chocolate Factory, 600 West Kinzie, around 1:55 a.m., according to a CPD report. The woman said someone fired shots at her car from a dark-colored vehicle, and one round struck her in the left thigh.

She drove away from the scene and flagged down a police officer for help on the 500 block of South Desplaines.

Investigators found shell casings on Kinzie street and a nearby sidewalk. An officer said the woman’s car had one bullet hole on the driver’s side and another on the passenger side.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.

In the earlier shooting, police said a 30-year-old man drove to his girlfriend’s residence on the 500 block of North Halsted after being shot multiple times in a different location around 11:30 p.m. Investigators have not yet determined where the shooting took place, according to a CPD statement.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with three gunshot wounds to his back, one to his arm, and another to his chest. He was listed in critical condition.

CWBChicago has learned that the man is on bail while awaiting trial in a murder case that accuses him of killing a woman with his car while fleeing police.

Area Three detectives are investigating both shootings.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
