Shootings leave men injured in Old Town, Uptown

Two men were injured in separate shootings this weekend in the Uptown and Old Town neighborhoods. No one has been charged with shooting the men, but police did arrest someone who was in the Uptown victim’s car for illegal gun possession, according to CPD records.

Most recently, a 31-year-old man was shot as he got out of a vehicle on the 1300 block of North Sedgwick around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, police said. The victim was unable to provide police with any information about what happened, according to a CPD statement.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition with gunshot wounds to his thigh, groin, lower leg, and forearm.

He is the sixth person shot in Old Town this month.

On Saturday, someone fired shots from an SUV, striking a 21-year-old man in the back as he sat in a car on the 900 block of West Montrose around 11:26 a.m., police said. The victim arrived at Weiss Hospital in his car and was later transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

Police officers who responded to Weiss arrested an occupant of the car for illegal gun possession, and charges were pending. Three bullet holes could be seen in the victim’s car as it sat outside the hospital.

Thirteen people have been shot in Uptown so far this year. That compares to 14 at this point last year and ten at this point in 2019.

Area Three detectives are investigating both shootings.
