Shootings leave man dead in West Town, another wounded in West Loop overnight

Police are investigating separate shootings that left a man dead in West Town and another man injured in the West Loop overnight. No arrests have been made.

In West Town, officers responded to shots fired on the 900 block of North Damen at 12:55 a.m. and found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to his torso, according to a CPD media statement. He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, but his identity is not yet known. Police estimated his age to be about 30.

A witness told police they saw the gunman leave in a white sedan headed west on Walton Street. Several shell casings were found at the scene.

Then, at 4:45 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot three times on the 1500 block of West Fulton. The victim was outside when the gunman approached and began firing in his direction.

Bullets struck the man in his left leg and buttocks and also grazed his cheek, police said. Officers at the scene said he was being taken to Stroger in critical condition.

Witnesses said the offender left the area in a dark-colored Ford Focus that headed north on Ashland.

Investigators found several shell casings, an ammunition magazine, and other evidence at the scene.
