A man and a woman were injured in separate shootings Sunday evening as they drove on the North Side, police said. The cases do not appear to be related, and no arrests have been made.
In Rogers Park, a bullet grazed the head of a 35-year-old man as he drove in the 7200 block of North Rogers around 9:35 p.m., according to police. The victim, who drove himself to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, told police that a man fired shots at him from a dark-colored sedan. Witnesses said the car was a Lexus.
Investigators found eleven 10-millimeter shell casings at the scene. According to city records, 21 people have been shot in Rogers Park this year.
Less than an hour later, a 23-year-old woman was shot in the leg as she drove north on Lake Shore Drive in Lincoln Park around 10:15 p.m., police said. She told police that a man fired shots from a red Jeep a couple of blocks south of Fullerton Avenue.
The woman drove herself to AMITA Health St. Joseph Hospital for treatment. Police said the woman does not appear to have a history of contact with CPD.
So far this year, 17 people have been shot in Lincoln Park, including eight who were injured in a mass shooting on July 21. There were seven shooting victims in the neighborhood last year.
Area Three detectives are investigating both shootings.
