Two more armed robberies were reported in Lakeview and nearby Lincoln Park on Monday evening as CPD announced that a 17-year-old boy has been charged with two recent armed hold-ups in the area.
Lakeview and, to a lesser extent, Lincoln Park and Old Town have seen a surge in robberies since early November, with at least 40 victims being held-up, according to CPD records.
More robberies
A 32-year-old man was walking on the 3600 block of North Marshfield when a gunman confronted him and demanded his property around 8:50 p.m. Monday, Officer Ronald Westbrooks said.
The robber took the victim’s cash, phone, and credit cards before escaping, possibly in a silver sedan. Westbrooks said the suspect is described as a Black male in his late 20’s or early 30’s with dreadlocks who stands about 5’9″ tall and weighs about 250 pounds. The suspect was wearing a red shirt, black pants, and white shoes.
About an hour later, two men exited a silver sedan and robbed a man at gunpoint on the 2200 block of North Clark, Westbrooks said. The victim, age 45, was walking when the offenders took his wallet, phone, and Canada Goose coat before fleeing around 9:47 p.m.
Westbrooks said the suspects are described as two Black men between 20- and 25-years-old who stand 5’9″ to 5’11’ tall.
Earlier in the day, a woman was robbed by two men on the 4000 block of North Broadway in Buena Park. The men stepped out of a black four-door Pontiac and took her phone and tan tote bag containing her wallet and umbrella around 11:00 a.m., according to a police report.
She said the robbers were two Black males, and one of them had a tattoo over one eye. The tattooed man’s description aligns with a suspect involved in a string of robberies across Buena Park and Lakeview on November 6.
An arrest
CPD announced early Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy has been charged with five counts of armed robbery with a firearm in connection with two incidents in Lakeview last month. It is the first arrest police have announced in connection with the month-long robbery surge across Lakeview and nearby Lincoln Park.
Cops arrested the teen Monday morning to face charges in a hold-up on the 3900 block of North Janssen around 10:05 p.m. on November 21 and another robbery on the 800 block of West Wolfram around 9:20 p.m. on November 17.
No further information is available about the teen because he is a juvenile.
