Girl, 16, charged with robbery after zapping Mag Mile store employee with a Taser

A 16-year-old girl is charged with three felonies after she and an accomplice shoplifted from two stores on the Magnificent Mile.

Police said the girls stole merchandise from two businesses on the 600 and 700 blocks of North Michigan Avenue around 6:30 p.m. A source said the stores involved are Nike, 669 North Michigan, and Zara, 700 North Michigan.

Employees at both stores confronted the duo. In one store, a girl threatened to zap the employee. At the other store, the girl deployed the Taser, stunning a 27-year-old security guard, police said.

There is conflicting information about which store the injured guard was working for. Police said he received medical treatment at the scene.

One of the thieves got away, but police arrested the 16-year-old as she fled from the second store. She is charged with two felony counts of armed robbery and felony aggravated battery of a merchant, according to a CPD media release.

No further information is available about the girl because she is a juvenile.
