A man is in serious condition after someone fired shots into a Wicker Park bar after closing time early Sunday, according to a CPD report. Patrons of the same bar were targeted in a mass shooting that left one man dead and four others injured in October.
Police issued a brief media statement that said a 29-year-old man was on the 1500 block of North Milwaukee “inside a business when he heard shots and felt pain” at 5:08 a.m.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to his right eye and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, according to police. A woman was also treated for injuries sustained from flying glass.
Witnesses said police and EMS were entering and exiting The Point, 1565 North Milwaukee, and the bar’s storefront glass was broken.
The gunman is believed to have opened fire on the bar from across the street. Police found several shell casings there.
Based on preliminary information, police searched the area for a suspect, described as a Black male wearing a winter cap and brown coat who fled north on Milwaukee Avenue after firing shots. No arrests were made.
In October, five people were shot, one fatally, in an exchange of gunfire outside The Point that was captured on video. Prosecutors said the shootout involved four gunmen, one of whom died.
The bar’s owner blamed Chicago police for not preventing the shooting.
