Charges were filed Thursday against a man who allegedly carjacked a DoorDash driver in Logan Square. It happened after the 46-year-old driver completed her delivery on the 3300 block of West Schubert around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
As she returned to her car, Gabriel Camacho confronted her with a screwdriver, Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Mahoney said.
“Get the f*ck out of the car,” Camacho allegedly ordered while making a stabbing motion with the tool. He pushed the woman and then drove away with her vehicle, Mahoney alleged.
Police found her car in an alley about three blocks away just a few minutes later. Camacho was walking away from it when they arrived, Mahoney said. Cops allegedly found the victim’s car keys and insurance declaration page in his jacket pocket. There was a screwdriver on the floorboard of her car, Mahoney added.
Camacho was convicted of robbery in 2017 and unlawful possession of a knife in 2015, according to Mahoney.
His public defender said Camacho is a new father.
Judge Susan Ortiz set bail at $350,000 with electronic monitoring. Camacho must post 10% of the bail amount to go home on house arrest.
