Man shot while driving near Field Museum, police say

Police are investigating after a 19-year-old man was shot while driving on Lake Shore Drive near the Field Museum last night.

The victim told police he was heading south on the drive when someone fired shots at his vehicle from a white sedan around 9:15 p.m., according to a CPD media statement. EMS took him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left side of his torso.

Police found the man and his car outside the south entrance to the Field Museum, 1400 South Lake Shore Drive. Officers said there were several bullet holes along the side of the man’s car.

Shortly before the man was found injured, a 911 caller reported hearing shots fired near Lake Shore Drive and 18th Street, south of the Field Museum. Police did not receive any other calls of gunfire in the area before the man was discovered, according to CPD dispatch records.

Area Three detectives are handling the investigation.
