Rifle-wielding robber strikes for 2nd time in West Loop

A rifle-wielding robber mugged a woman in the West Loop early Monday — marking the second time in two weeks that a similar hold-up has been reported in the area.

The 24-year-old was walking on the 800 block of West Kinzie around 1:19 a.m. when a dark, older model SUV pulled up, said Kellie Bartoli, a CPD spokesperson. A man stepped out of the SUV with a rifle and demanded the woman’s property. She threw her backpack and purse to the ground.

Bartoli said the robber picked the woman’s belongings up and drove away in the SUV. She said he is a Black male with dreadlocks who stands about 5’6″ tall and weighs about 130 pounds. He wore a black skull cap and a green jacket.

The details of Monday’s robbery are similar to a hold-up reported on the 600 block of West Fulton at 11 p.m. on February 14.

In that case, a man was walking his dog when a dark-colored SUV rolled up, and a man got out of the passenger seat with a rifle. He robbed the victim and returned to the car, which left the area.

He described the robber as a Black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks who stood about 5’5″ tall and wore dark clothing, according to a CPD report.

Detectives are investigating both crimes.
