Robbers fired a shot while robbing 4 in Wicker Park on Sunday, police say

Armed robbers fired a shot into the air while mugging four people on a Wicker Park street early Sunday, Chicago police said. No injuries or property damage were reported.

It happened just after midnight on the 1400 block of North Leavitt. The victims were walking when a gray sedan pulled up and three offenders stepped out, said Kellie Bartoli, a CPD spokesperson.

After the crew robbed the victims, one of them fired a shot into the air, and they all left the scene in the car, which a fourth person drove, Bartoli continued. The victims, a 22-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, and two 23-year-old men, lost wallets and phones to the offenders.

Bartoli said the suspects are Black males between 16- and 25-years-old with one wearing a ski mask. Area Five detectives are investigating the case.

Through February 4, CPD has recorded 12 robberies this year in Wicker Park and Bucktown. That’s down from 15 during the same period last year but up from 7 in 2020 and 8 in 2019, according to the city’s crime data.
