Man stabbed, critically wounded by shoplifter at River North Walgreens

A shoplifter repeatedly stabbed a man who saw him stealing merchandise from a Walgreens store in River North on Sunday night, according to a CPD report. The 51-year-old victim is in critical condition.

Police said the victim “made a verbal attempt to intervene” when he saw the shoplifter concealing merchandise from a shelf at the store, 641 North Clark, around 10:38 p.m.

The shoplifter became irate, pulled out a sharp object, and stabbed the victim repeatedly, police said. He then left the store.

Police said the victim suffered multiple lacerations to his face and neck and stab wounds to his legs. EMS took him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

CPD did not release any suspect description information. A police spokesperson said they were unable to confirm if the victim was a customer or employee of the store.
