2 men shot in Lincoln Square overnight, police say

Police are investigating an overnight double-shooting in the Bowmanville neighborhood of Lincoln Square.

The two men arrived at Swedish Hospital in a van around 1:15 a.m. They told officers they were sitting in the van on the 1900 block of West Balmoral when a gunman approached and began shooting at them about 15 minutes earlier.

Investigators found shell casings and broken glass on Balmoral. The men’s van had bullet holes in it and broken windows, according to an officer at the hospital.

A 43-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm. Police said he was in fair condition. Online records show he has a home address on the same block where the shooting occurred.

The other man, age 27, is in serious condition with gunshot wounds to his right hand and back, police said.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

According to the city’s Violence Reduction Dashboard, this morning’s victims are the third and fourth persons shot in Lincoln Square this year. That’s up from three victims at this point last year.

Last Wednesday afternoon, a 24-year-old woman was critically injured after someone shot her in the backyard of a home on the 2400 block of West Eastwood. Some witnesses reported that she was shot in an exchange of gunfire between at least two men.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
