Woman found murdered in Edgewater apartment building

Update 2:32 p.m. May 3, 2022: The Cook County medical examiner’s office said the victim was 23-years-old. It did not identify her by name.

Update May 4 — The woman has been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Brittany Kinlow, 23, a resident of the apartment building.


Police are investigating after a woman was found fatally shot in the hallway of an Edgewater apartment building on Monday afternoon.

A man reported finding the unidentified woman with a head injury near a ground floor laundry room on the 1000 block of West Bryn Mawr around 1:22 p.m. CPD said the woman the woman was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to her head.

Dispatchers found no records of recent 911 calls about gunfire or other unusual activity in the building. But police did find a shell casing at the scene.

CPD said they did not yet know the woman’s name or age. An officer at the scene said she appeared to be a young adult.

The woman is the sixth person shot in Edgewater this year, compared to one shooting victim at this time last year.
