3 in custody for attacking, robbing 2 people at Belmont CTA station this morning: police

Three people are in custody for allegedly attacking and robbing a man outside the Belmont CTA station in Lakeview this morning and then doing the same thing to another man on the station platform minutes later, Chicago police said.

The first robbery occurred around 4:34 a.m. under the Red Line station at 945 West Belmont. A CPD spokesperson said three people pushed a 46-year-old man to the ground and physically attacked him while taking his belongings.

Within minutes of the first attack, the same group attacked and robbed a 49-year-old man on the station’s platform, the spokesperson continued.

Police officers arrived at the scene and took all three suspects into custody. They are a 20-year-old woman and men ages 24 and 18, police said.

EMS took the first victim to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition with minor injuries. The second victim was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Charges are pending.
