The victim was outside when the gunman approached and demanded his property. Police said the victim refused to comply and then struggled with the robber, who shot the victim and ran from the scene.

Officers at the scene described the shooter as a Black male who’s about 30-years-old , slim, 6-feet to 6’1″ tall, wearing a baggy white shirt, black shorts, and a baseball hat. He had a tattoo with cursive writing over his right eyebrow, had a backpack, and was last seen heading north on foot.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.

Armed robbery crews swept through the downtown area and other neighborhoods early on Tuesday and again early yesterday, but it is not yet known if the shooting is related to those crime sprees.

Area North detectives are handling the shooting investigation.

This morning’s victim is the 14th person shot in River North this year. The neighborhood had eight shooting victims at this point last year and only one as of this date in 2020.
