A 39-year-old man was shot during an apparent robbery in Streeterville early Monday, Chicago police said. Earlier, in an unrelated incident, a woman was shot in Old Town. No arrests have been made.
In Streeterville, the victim was near a parking garage in the 400 block of East Erie when an armed man tried to rob him around 1:48 a.m., according to CPD. The offender shot the man in the knee and took the victim’s fanny pack, officers at the scene said.
The gunman escaped in a white Nissan Murano that headed toward Lake Shore Drive with two other occupants. Police did not release any descriptions of the offenders.
EMS took the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
Earlier, a 28-year-old woman was shot in her right arm as she walked in the 400 block of West Evergreen around 11:50 p.m. Sunday. Police the woman “heard shots and felt pain,” but no other details were released. She was taken to Northwestern in good condition.
The victims are the 37th and 38th persons shot on the Near North Side so far this year, according to records maintained by CWBChicago. By comparison, the area had 18 shooting victims through July 4 last year; 14 as of Independence Day 2020; and 21 at this point in 2019.
