A man ran away with a 9-year-old girl who was walking with her grandmother in West Ridge on Wednesday morning, Chicago police said, but the kid managed to get away by biting the kidnapper’s finger. Cops are still looking for the offender.

The girl and her grandmother were walking in the 6600 block of North Damen Avenue when the man grabbed the girl and started running with her around 9:53 a.m., according to a CPD media statement.

But the girl had other plans. She chomped down on the man’s finger when they reached the 6600 block of North Ridge Boulevard and got away. The kidnapper kept running, according to police.

Ald. Debra Silverstein (50th) said the kidnapping attempt occurred outside Cermak Fresh Market, 6623 North Damen.

CPD described the man as Black, 5’8″ to 5’10” tall, and 150 to 170 pounds. He had dreads and wore glasses, a white shirt, gray pants, white shoes, and a camouflage baseball hat with the letter “C” on it.

Chicago police were searching nearby yards and Warren Park for the man. So far, they have not reported any arrests.
