Chicago police say a 30-year-old man was shot and killed while standing on a sidewalk in Uptown on Monday night.
The victim was in the 4600 block of North Dover when two men approached and began shooting around 11:41 p.m., according to a CPD media statement. He was hit twice in the chest and later died at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
A witness reported seeing two Black males in their early- to mid-20s running east after the shooting. They may have escaped in a dark gray Honda.
Twelve people have been shot in Uptown this year, down from 15 at this point last year. The neighborhood had nine shooting victims at this point in 2020 and ten as of this date in 2019.
However, while shootings have decreased slightly, murders have reached their highest level since 2015, according to city records. This year, Uptown has had seven murder victims, five of whom were shot. Full-year murder totals for recent years in Uptown: two in 2021, six in 2020, and none in 2019.
