5-year-old shot in Rogers Park on Sunday has died, family says

The 5-year-old boy shot in Rogers Park on Sunday evening has died, according to his family.

Devin “Boom” McGregor “has lost his fight,” said his grandmother in a GoFundMe update overnight. “We are deeply saddened and don’t have the words to express our grief.”

Devin and his father were in the 7600 block of North Paulina when a gunman opened fire on them from a black Hyundai around 5 p.m., police said Sunday. Investigators found rifle casings at the scene.

Devin suffered a gunshot wound to his head, and his father was shot in the left hand and shoulder.

On Wednesday morning, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) told her Facebook followers that police “made an arrest in connection with the crime yesterday afternoon,” but CPD said at the time that no one was in custody and the investigation was ongoing.

Hadden has not clarified her statement. No charges have been announced.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
