Chicago police believe an Edgewater man was killed when a driver intentionally hit him in the West Loop on Sunday morning. CPD has not explained why investigators believe the collision in the 100 block of North Ogden may be a murder.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Enrique Martinez, 22, of the 5700 block of North Glenwood.

Martinez was walking south on the sidewalk when a dark-colored sedan struck him around 5:15 a.m., according to CPD. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Area Three detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
