Chicago police have released a series of video clips as they try to track down the two men who stabbed another man to death during a robbery attempt in the Loop this week. The footage comes one day after CPD released still images of the suspects.
In the video clips, the men are seen walking in the 400 block of South Clark about an hour before the attack on Tuesday evening. Then, around 10:54 p.m., they confronted 41-year-old Michael Byrnes on the corner of LaSalle and Van Buren.
CPD said the two men turned away and started to leave after the initial encounter. But the video shows the men turning around and returning to Byrnes. Then, for a moment, they are seen dragging him into camera range.
The video fades, and a CPD graphic explains that the men dragged Byrnes, then beat, robbed, and stabbed him to death.
After the attack, the suspects are seen on video again, this time in the 400 block of South LaSalle, and one of them appears to have a cast or wrap on his right hand, according to CPD’s explanation of the video.
Anyone with information about the men can contact CPD Detective Leavitt at 312-744-8261 regarding case JF-386051.
