17-year-old found shot to death in car under South Loop train tracks

Update: The victim died of his injuries on October 29, 2022. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Anthony Sims.

Chicago police are investigating after a 17-year-old boy was found shot to death under the L tracks in the South Loop on Saturday evening.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot in an alley behind the 1900 block of South State around 9 p.m. They found the victim dead in the front passenger seat of a car with a gunshot wound to his head, according to a CPD media statement.

But the man may have been left at the South Loop location after being shot elsewhere, according to initial information from the scene. The car was riddled with bullet holes, and bullets were found inside the vehicle. Police also found two handguns ditched underneath an SUV just a few yards from where the victim was found.

A witness reported seeing two men wearing ski masks running from the area shortly before the victim was found.

Area Three detectives are handling the investigation.

Update: The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the boy as Anthony Sims, but the office did not list his home address.
