A 15-year-old girl was drugged and then sexually assaulted along the Chicago River bank in Lakeview on Friday evening, according to Chicago police.

Police responded to the 3200 block of North Rockwell, across from DePaul College Prep and just south of Lane Tech High School, around 10:45 after a 911 caller reported that a girl had been attacked.

The victim was “under the influence of an unknown substance after drinking a cup of water,” said Sgt. Rocco Alioto, a CPD spokesperson. She had been “led into the area by an unknown male offender, who sexually assaulted the victim.”

Alioto said the attacker remains at large.

EMS took the girl to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in fair condition.

Investigators found a crime scene, including clothing, near a bike path that runs along the river. Area Three detectives are investigating.

On Saturday afternoon, DePaul College Prep President Mary Dempsey sent an email about the incident to the school’s community.

“At this time, we have no indication that there is any ongoing danger to our community. We will of course provide the police with any video footage or access to our safety personnel and volunteers who were assisting at the football game last evening in the event they saw or heard anything that may assist the police in their investigation,” Dempsey wrote.

“I ask you to use this as an opportunity to talk with your family about being aware of your surroundings at all times and to avoid entering the woods along the bike path at night,” she said.
