Chicago — A Bolingbrook man has been charged with killing two men in a South Loop shooting on September 10, according to Chicago police.
Andre Nelson, 56, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and will appear for a bail hearing early this afternoon.
More details will be known after the court session.
The shootings occurred in the first block of East Cermak around 1:45 a.m. Moments earlier, officers stationed in the Motor Row District reported seeing people fighting and two cars chasing each other near Cermak and Michigan. As officers tamped down the disturbance, they found two men lying unresponsive with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk at 67 East Cermak.
The men were standing on a sidewalk when shots were fired, according to CPD’s initial press release, but no other information was provided.
Witnesses saw police officers performing chest compressions on both men, but one victim, a 30-year-old man, was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to a CPD statement. EMS took the other man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his face and back. He was also pronounced dead a short time later. His age was not immediately available.
CWBChicago reported at the time that police searched the area for a man seen running west from the shooting scene with a gun in his hand. He was described as a tall, bald, Black male, the report said..
