Chicago — A woman is in custody after she allegedly stole a bag of money from an armored car courier outside an Edgewater bank on Monday afternoon, according to Chicago police.

A Brinks courier team was making the delivery at Chase, 5715 North Broadway, when the woman stole a money bag from him around 12:30 p.m., CPD said. Emergency dispatchers initially received calls of a “confused” woman who was trying to get into cars that were passing the bank, but they soon learned that a woman had stolen a bag of cash from the same spot.

Officers at the scene said the bag contained about $20,000, but they also said it may have contained $200,000.

Either way, the bag was recovered nearby, and police arrested the woman at the Granville Red Line station just before 1 p.m.

In a tweet posted Monday afternoon, CPD thanked a “quick thinking citizen” and the Lincoln (20th) District tactical team for making the cash recovery and arrest possible.

CWBChicago will post an update if prosecutors approve charges against the woman.
