1 charged after woman is carjacked in Ravenswood

Chicago — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with carjacking a woman at gunpoint in Ravenswood on Thursday evening, Chicago police said. But other members of the hijacking crew got away.

The teen and another man took a 30-year-old woman’s 2014 Toyota Camry at gunpoint in the 2300 block of West Giddings around 9:55 p.m., according to a Chicago police report. At least one other accomplice accompanied the crew in a sedan.

A Chicago police detective spotted the victim’s car while traveling in the area. Other officers spotted the 17-year-old walking in the area. After a foot chase, he was taken into custody outside Gideon Welles, a pub at 4500 North Lincoln, according to a witness.

A police report says that the teen had one of the victim’s credit cards when he was caught. Officers found the woman’s car abandoned in the 2100 block of West Sunnyside.

The boy is charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and possessing burglary tools.
