Chicago — Road rage may be the motive for a shooting that left a man critically wounded near Goose Island early Saturday, according to Chicago police. The shooting occurred steps away from the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center site, which will soon be transformed into Bally’s Casino.

The 38-year-old was heading west in the 700 block of West Chicago Avenue when the gunman shot at him from a white pickup truck at around 12:07 a.m., a CPD media statement said. One round struck the victim in the back. He is in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

After the shooting, the shooter’s vehicle headed north, possibly on May Street, while the victim continued driving to the 1100 block of West Chicago Avenue. The fire department found him there and summoned the police.

Investigators found four shell casings at the shooting scene. An officer who responded to the call said two Hispanic men occupied the gunman’s truck. But no other information was available.
