Chicago — Three people are in custody after a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended with a SWAT response at a Near North Side apartment building on Tuesday, Chicago police said. Authorities seized six firearms, including two rifles, according to CPD.
The incident began when the driver of a stolen car sped away from Illinois State Police troopers near 47th Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, officials said. Troopers pursued the vehicle to the 1100 block of North Wells, where four people bailed out of the car and ran into a high-rise apartment building around 4 p.m.
Officers quickly found two rifles in the stolen car and detained two suspects. By 8 p.m., a third person was arrested as police swept the building, focusing on the 12th floor, where apartment units are rented out short-term, according to residents.
Four more weapons were found inside the building, police said. The officers never located the fourth person who ran from the car.
