Robbers beat, pistol-whip man in Lakeview

Chicago — Armed robbers beat and pistol-whipped a man as he walked in Lakeview overnight, Chicago police said.

The 31-year-old was walking in the 3200 block of North Southport when three men stepped out of a black Jetta around 2:40 a.m. The group beat the man and hit him in the face with a handgun, police said.

After getting the victim’s wallet and phone, the crew rode away in the Jetta. An officer who responded to the scene said the robbers are three Black males, one wearing a green jacket, another wearing a navy sweatshirt, and the third wearing a light blue puffy coat.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
