Chicago police are investigating after a man was severely beaten by three men armed with various weapons in Boystown early Monday. The victim is in critical condition.
The 40-year-old was walking in the 700 block of West Buckingham, just east of the Halsted Street nightlife strip, when the offenders approached him around 12:10 a.m., according to a Chicago police statement.
After an argument, the three men beat the victim, causing severe injuries to his head and body, police said.
Officers at the scene said the weapons used were a knife, a mailbox, and a 2-by-4 with a nail sticking out of it.
The victim is hospitalized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with puncture wounds and other injuries to his head and neck.
Police searched the area for three suspects: a Black male wearing a navy winter cap with a black and gray jacket; a Black male wearing a white cap with a black coat with writing on the sleeves; and a Black male wearing all black clothing.
