Chicago police are investigating after a 13-year-old boy was shot in Rogers Park on Saturday afternoon.
Officers who responded to the scene said the boy and some witnesses did not provide information to help the police investigation, so details about what happened are sketchy.
The boy was with other people on the corner of Jarvis and Greenview when someone fired shots around 3:35 p.m., according to initial information from the scene.
One bullet struck the boy just above the ankle in his left leg. He was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Several people fled the scene, but one witness described the shooter as a Black male in his twenties wearing a black face mask, a black coat, and gloves. An officer said that he may have gotten away in an older white sedan, maybe a Toyota or a Honda.
The boy is the fourth person shot in Rogers Park this year. Three people had been shot in the neighborhood at this point last year, including one who was shot by a person acting in self-defense, according to public records. There was only one shooting victim in Rogers Park as of this date in 2021.
