Chicago — A Chicago police SWAT team responded after a man was shot inside a South Loop apartment building overnight, but the gunman got away.
The shooting occurred during a gathering inside a 14th-floor apartment in the 1300 block of South Wabash, according to a Chicago police statement. Several people were inside the unit when someone tried to rob a 27-year-old man.
Police said the robber pulled out a gun, shot the victim in the neck, then fled around 1:40 a.m. Arriving officers found the victim in the lobby and applied QuikClot, a special gauze designed to slow blood loss. EMS took the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
Meanwhile, a SWAT team assisted district patrol officers in their search for the gunman, but they came up empty-handed.
CPD did not release a description of the gunman. An officer at the scene said people in the apartment at the time of the shooting were providing investigators with little information.
