Man, 21, killed while intervening in a fight in Edgewater

Chicago — A 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed after he intervened in a knife attack in Edgewater on Wednesday night, Chicago police said. The offender remains at large.

CPD said a woman armed with a knife tried to attack a man and woman on a sidewalk in the 5200 block of North Sheridan around 11:41 p.m.

The victim tried to intervene, but the armed woman, who may have been under the influence of drugs, attacked him, according to police and a witness. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital with a stab wound to his upper left chest. He died at 12:35 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Chicago police did not release a description of the attacker. Witnesses described her as a Black female with short twists and beads in her hair who stands about 5’8″ tall.

The stabbing is Edgewater’s first murder of 2023.
