CHICAGO — Police are conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead in a Rogers Park apartment on Monday evening.

Officers were initially dispatched to the 1700 block of West Estes around 5:50 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a woman appeared to be overdosing, according to CPD dispatch records.

But officers discovered the 41-year-old woman unresponsive with visible bruises to her face and body, a Chicago police spokesperson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. On Tuesday afternoon, the Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled her death a homicide due to multiple injuries suffered in an assault.

Police said investigators believed the woman died between 6 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. Monday.

A man who knew the victim was taken to Area Three police headquarters for questioning, the CPD spokesperson said. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
