Boy, 17, carjacked 62-year-old man in Lakeview parking garage, police say

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with carjacking a Lakeview hotel guest in the Century Mall parking garage this summer, according to Chicago police.

The 62-year-old victim parked his car in the garage at 2836 North Clark around 10 p.m. and started walking toward his nearby hotel. But he didn’t even make it out of the garage before two hijackers attacked him, forced him to the ground, and rifled through his pockets, a CPD report said.

After taking the man’s wallet, phone, and keys, the carjackers jumped into his 2020 Nissan Rogue and drove away, last seen heading south on Clark Street.

Today, CPD announced that the 17-year-old boy was one of the hijackers. They arrested him Sunday evening in the 1800 block of South Springfield to face one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking of a victim over 60 years old. No charges have been announced against the second offender.

Police did not identify the boy by name because he is a juvenile, and those details are shielded by law.
