Chicago police are looking for help as they try to find the driver responsible for a fatal car crash in West Town over the weekend. And there is conflicting information about what happened.

Officially, CPD issued a community alert overnight that said a 2011 Cadillac struck a pedestrian in the 1300 block of West Kinzie around 2 a.m. Sunday. The Cadillac’s driver fled the scene, and the pedestrian died.

But two people who contacted CWBChicago said they believed the victim may have been riding on top of the Cadillac when it struck a chain-link fence that blocks access to a nearby street.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the woman as Aurea Gutierrez, 31, of the 2900 block of North Kenneth.

CPD’s alert said the Cadillac bore the Illinois license plate DV19629.

Information about the crash can be shared with major accident investigators at 312-745-4521. The case number is JG428578.
